1949-S Franklin Half Dollar Fine/XF

0.3575 troy oz .900 1949 Fine or Better

In 1949, the San Francisco Mint produced a silver half dollar that departed from traditional allegorical figures, opting instead to honor one of America's most famous founding citizens. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, capturing his likeness in a clean, mid-century style. Accompanying his profile are the classic inscriptions of liberty and trust, alongside the 1949 date. Turning the coin over reveals a detailed depiction of the Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with open wings stands in compliance with traditional coinage requirements. The reverse also displays the denomination of half dollar, the national motto of unity, and the issuing country. Struck in 90 percent silver, this coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and represents a classic era of United States coinage design.
