The 1949 Franklin Half Dollar, struck at the San Francisco Mint, represents a classic era of mid-century United States coinage. This particular silver coin, composed of 0.3575 troy ounces of pure silver, has been certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64) with the highly sought-after Full Bell Lines designation, indicating an exceptionally sharp and complete strike on the reverse details. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the obverse of the coin presents a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his likeness are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1949 date. The reverse of the coin features the iconic Liberty Bell as its central motif, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element included to fulfill legal coinage requirements. The reverse inscriptions display the country of origin, the half dollar denomination, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Collectors can locate the small 'S' mint mark of the San Francisco facility just above the yoke of the bell.
