1950-D Franklin Half Dollar AU
In 1950, the Denver Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that captures a distinct era in American coinage. This mid-century coin, struck in 0.900 fine silver with a precious metal weight of 0.3575 troy ounces, presents a departure from traditional allegorical figures by honoring a historical individual on its obverse. Benjamin Franklin is depicted in a right-facing profile on the obverse. This portrait, created by designer John R. Sinnock, is accompanied by the classic inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1950 date. The design offers a clean, dignified representation of one of the nation's most famous founders. The reverse of the coin features the historic Liberty Bell as its central motif, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, satisfying the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse is completed with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the face value, HALF DOLLAR. This particular specimen survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the fine details of both the portrait and the bell.
