1950 Franklin Half Dollar BU

In 1950, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that departed from traditional allegorical figures, choosing instead to honor one of America's most famous founding citizens. This mid-century coin, struck in 90 percent silver, carries a total precious metal weight of 0.3575 troy ounces. Kept in brilliant uncirculated condition, it offers a remarkably clear look at a classic post-war American coin design. The obverse presents a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, rendered by designer John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the portrait are the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust, alongside the mid-century date. Because this piece was struck at the main minting facility in Philadelphia, it does not carry a mint mark, leaving the fields around the portrait clean and open. On the reverse, the design showcases the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings stands out. The reverse is framed by the inscriptions denoting the half dollar denomination, the issuing nation, and the traditional Latin motto meaning out of many, one.
