1950 Franklin Half Dollar Fine/XF

In 1950, the United States Mint produced a half dollar that departed from traditional allegorical figures, opting instead to honor one of the nation's most famous founding fathers. The obverse of this ninety percent silver coin features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, rendered by designer John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions of freedom and faith, with the word LIBERTY positioned above his likeness and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, resting below. The year of mintage is placed clearly to the right of Franklin's collar. Turning the coin over reveals a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the left of the bell, the traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed, while a small eagle with outstretched wings stands to the right. The name of the issuing nation and the half dollar denomination are boldly displayed to complete the reverse design. This particular mid-century issue contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious silver, offering a tangible connection to the post-war era of American coinage.
