This ten-cent piece from 1950 represents a classic era of American mid-century coinage. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, as indicated by the small S mint mark, this dime is composed of ninety percent silver, containing approximately 0.0715 to 0.0723 troy ounces of the precious metal. Preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, the coin retains its original mint luster and sharp details just as it looked when it left the coining press. The obverse features a profile portrait of President Franklin D. Roosevelt facing left. Surrounding his likeness are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1950 date. The designer's initials, JS, are subtly placed near the base of the neck. This clean, dignified portrait has remained a staple of American pocket change for decades. On the reverse, a symbolic trio of objects takes center stage. A central lit torch represents liberty, flanked on the left by an olive branch symbolizing peace, and on the right by an oak branch representing strength and independence. The legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME frame the design, while the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is split across the lower field, completing this iconic piece of United States numismatic history.
