This mid-century Mexican five-peso coin is a striking example of the country's silver minting tradition. Struck in 0.720 fine silver, each piece contains 27.778 grams of total weight, which equates to 0.643 troy ounces of precious metal. Measuring a substantial 40 millimeters in diameter, the coin provides a generous canvas for its detailed engravings. The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a key figure in the history of Mexico. His name, HIDALGO, is inscribed alongside his likeness. On the reverse, the design showcases the traditional Mexican coat of arms, depicting an eagle perched on a cactus while clutching a snake. This side also displays the denomination of CINCO PESOS, the silver purity of 0.720, the weight of 22 grams of pure silver, and the Mo mint mark representing the Mexico City Mint. These pieces survive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of their original strike from the 1951 to 1954 era.
