1951-D Franklin Half Dollar Fine/XF
In 1951, the Denver Mint produced a half dollar that departed from traditional allegorical figures, opting instead to honor one of America's most famous founding citizens. The obverse of this ninety percent silver coin features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin. Surrounding his likeness are the classic inscriptions of freedom and faith, with the word LIBERTY positioned above his bust and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST placed underneath. The year of mintage is situated to the right of the portrait. The reverse side of the coin presents a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the left of the bell, the traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM is visible, while a small eagle with open wings stands to the right. The denomination of the coin, HALF DOLLAR, is clearly inscribed below the central bell design. This piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of pure silver, representing a classic era of United States coinage designed by John R. Sinnock.
