The mid-century coinage of the United States features one of the nation's most respected founding figures. This 1951 half dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, presents a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin on its obverse. Surrounding the profile are the classic inscriptions of freedom and faith, including the word LIBERTY and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the mid-century date of 1951. On the reverse, the design showcases the iconic Liberty Bell, complete with a small eagle with spread wings standing to the right. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing country, the denomination of HALF DOLLAR, and the traditional Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM. The Denver origin is marked by the letter D. This particular silver piece, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of actual silver weight, has been certified in Mint State 65 condition. It also carries the highly regarded Full Bell Lines designation, indicating that the horizontal lines on the lower portion of the Liberty Bell are exceptionally sharp and complete, a detail that is highly prized by those who study the series.
