1951-S Franklin Half Dollar MS-64 PCGS (FBL)

0.3575 troy oz .900 1951 MS-64 (PCGS)

Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1951, this mid-century silver half dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. It has been certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64) condition, highlighting its remarkable preservation from over seven decades ago. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, designed by John R. Sinnock. Accompanying the profile are the traditional inscriptions of liberty and trust, alongside the 1951 date. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with a small eagle with spread wings standing nearby. The reverse inscriptions declare the nation of origin, the half dollar denomination, and the Latin motto of unity. What makes this particular specimen stand out to enthusiasts is its Full Bell Lines (FBL) designation. This distinction indicates that the horizontal lines near the bottom of the Liberty Bell on the reverse are exceptionally well-defined and fully struck, a feature that is highly prized on Franklin half dollars due to how difficult it was to achieve such detail during the minting process. The tiny 'S' mint mark above the bell confirms its origin from the San Francisco facility.
