1953-1967 Great Britain Large Penny Elizabeth II BU

0.0000 troy oz 1953-1967 Uncirculated

During the mid-twentieth century, the United Kingdom circulated a large bronze penny that became a staple of daily commerce. Minted between 1953 and 1967, these substantial coins represent the early era of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. Struck in brilliant uncirculated condition, they offer a crisp look at the transition of British coinage before decimalization. The obverse of the coin displays a youthful portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, depicting the monarch facing right. On the reverse, the traditional figure of Britannia is seated, holding her shield with a lighthouse visible in the background. The design is framed by the denomination and the date of issue, as seen on the 1964 examples. These pieces are cataloged under the KM reference numbers 883, 894, and 897, serving as excellent specimens of modern British numismatic history.
