In 1953, the San Francisco Mint struck a classic piece of American silver coinage featuring one of the nation's most famous founding figures. This half dollar contains 0.3575 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. It has been certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64), preserving the crisp details of its mid-century engraving. The obverse presents a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, designed by John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the likeness of the philosopher and statesman are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1953 date. On the reverse, the central focus is the historic Liberty Bell, rendered with its characteristic crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with outstretched wings completes the design. The reverse also displays the denomination of half dollar, the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the S mint mark, indicating its origin from the San Francisco facility.
