In 1954, the Denver Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that stands as a classic example of mid-century American coinage. This fifty-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. Rendered in an Almost Uncirculated condition, the coin retains much of its original detail, offering a clear window into the artistry of the era. Designed by sculptor John R. Sinnock, the obverse presents a clean, right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin. This portrait broke from the traditional allegorical figures of Liberty, opting instead to honor one of the nation's most famous founding fathers. Surrounding his likeness are the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," alongside the 1954 date. The reverse of the coin is equally rich in national iconography, dominated by a detailed depiction of the Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element included to fulfill legal requirements for the denomination. The reverse also features the United States of America as the issuing country, the face value of half a dollar, and the traditional Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum."
