In 1954, the Denver Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that captures a distinct era in American coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and displays the bright, original luster of a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen. The coin represents a departure from traditional allegorical figures, opting instead to honor one of the nation's most famous founding fathers. The obverse presents a clean, right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, designed by sculptor John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the portrait are the classic inscriptions of "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," alongside the mid-century date of 1954. This simple yet dignified presentation highlights the statesman's recognizable features with minimalist elegance. Turning the coin over reveals a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings stands in compliance with traditional coinage requirements.
