This mid-twentieth-century half dollar represents a distinctive era in United States coinage, moving away from allegorical figures to honor a historical American icon. Struck at the Denver Mint in 1954, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. It has been certified in Mint State 64 condition, preserving its original details and luster for modern observers to appreciate. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, designed by artist John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the portrait are the classic inscriptions of freedom and faith, including the word "LIBERTY" and the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1954 year of issue. On the reverse, the design showcases the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, satisfying the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the face value, "HALF DOLLAR". Just above the bell, the "D" mint mark indicates its origin from the Denver facility.
