1954-D Franklin Half Dollar MS-65 PCGS

0.3575 troy oz .900 1954 MS-65 (PCGS)

The 1954 Franklin Half Dollar, struck at the Denver Mint, stands as a classic mid-century tribute to one of America's most versatile founding figures. Minted in 90 percent fine silver, this coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. It has been graded Mint State 65 (MS-65), indicating a highly preserved specimen with its original luster and details remarkably intact. On the obverse, a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin occupies the center. The design is flanked by the classic inscriptions of "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1954 date. This portrait represents a departure from the traditional allegorical figures of Liberty that dominated earlier United States coinage, opting instead for a historical individual. The reverse of the coin features the iconic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle is visible, satisfying the legal requirement for the bird's depiction on the half dollar. The reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the denomination "HALF DOLLAR", and the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". A small "D" mint mark is located above the bell, denoting its origin in Denver.
