1954 Franklin Half Dollar BU
Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1954, this mid-century silver half dollar represents a departure from traditional allegorical figures on United States coinage. The obverse features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of the nation's most famous founding figures. Accompanying his likeness are the classic inscriptions of liberty and trust, alongside the mid-century date. The reverse of the coin is rich with symbolic imagery, dominated by a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, fulfilling the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse also displays the traditional motto of unity alongside the face value of fifty cents. Crafted with a silver purity of 90 percent, this coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Designed by John R. Sinnock, this particular issue from Philadelphia does not carry a mint mark, which was the custom for the main minting facility during this era. This specific piece is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, meaning it retains its original luster and details just as it appeared when it first left the coining press.
