In 1954, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof coinage, including 233,300 Roosevelt dimes. Unlike standard circulating coins, these proof issues were struck with polished dies on specially prepared planchets, resulting in a mirror-like finish and sharp details that highlight the artistry of the design. This particular specimen is remarkable for its exceptional state of preservation, having earned the high grade of Proof 68 (PR-68). Struck in 90 percent silver, this ten-cent piece contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. The reverse of the coin features a torch flanked by an olive branch and an oak branch, symbolizing liberty, peace, and strength. Legible inscriptions on this side include the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, the denomination ONE DIME, and the country of origin, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin does not bear a mint mark.
