In 1954, the San Francisco Mint struck this mid-century silver half dollar, a coin that captures iconic American symbols in 90 percent pure silver. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64), preserving the crisp details of John R. Sinnock's design just as it emerged from the minting press decades ago. The obverse presents a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his likeness are the essential inscriptions of "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1954 date. This clean, dignified portrait offers a distinct departure from the allegorical figures that dominated earlier United States coinage. On the reverse, the mighty Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle is depicted, fulfilling the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse also displays the denomination of "HALF DOLLAR", the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the name of the issuing country. Just above the bell's yoke, the tiny "S" mint mark identifies this piece as a product of the historic San Francisco Mint, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of precious silver.
