In 1954, the San Francisco Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that honors one of America's most famous founding figures. This particular coin has been graded in an exceptional Mint State 66 condition, preserving its design details with remarkable clarity. Struck from 90 percent silver, it contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse of the coin features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, designed by John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1954 date. This design marked a departure from previous half dollar motifs, celebrating a historic statesman rather than an allegorical figure. On the reverse, the central focus is the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, fulfilling a traditional design element. The reverse also bears the denomination of HALF DOLLAR, the national motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the S mint mark, which identifies its origin at the San Francisco facility.
