1955 Franklin Half Dollar AU (Bugs Bunny Variety)

In 1955, the Philadelphia Mint produced a silver half dollar that would capture the imagination of numismatists for generations. This mid-century coin, struck in 0.900 fine silver, features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin on its obverse. Surrounding the founding father are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1955 date. This particular release is highly regarded for a famous die clash anomaly known to collectors as the Bugs Bunny variety, which creates the whimsical illusion of buck teeth on Franklin's profile. The reverse of the coin showcases the iconic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element required by law. The inscriptions on this side include the face value of HALF DOLLAR and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Because this coin was struck at the main minting facility in Philadelphia, it does not bear a mint mark, leaving the space above the bell dome clean. Designed by John R.
