The 1955 Franklin half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage, struck in Philadelphia with 0.3575 troy ounces of fine silver. Because it was minted at the main Philadelphia facility, this issue does not display a mint mark, maintaining a clean and traditional appearance. This particular specimen survives in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving its original luster and sharp details. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the obverse of the coin features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most revered founding figures. Surrounding his portrait are the essential inscriptions of national identity, including the word of freedom, the traditional motto of trust, and the 1955 date of manufacture. On the reverse, the central focus is the historic Liberty Bell, rendered with careful attention to its famous shape. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, satisfying the traditional requirement for the denomination. The reverse is completed by inscriptions denoting the United States of America, the Latin phrase meaning out of many, one, and the fifty-cent face value.
