This 1955 silver half dollar represents a beautiful moment in mid-century American coinage, struck as a proof coin at the Philadelphia mint. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin does not bear a mint mark, presenting a clean and classic appearance. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and has been certified in an exceptional Proof 67 (PF-67) condition. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his portrait are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1955 date. This design was originally created by John R. Sinnock, bringing a distinct portrait style to the nation's fifty-cent piece. On the reverse, the central focus is the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, fulfilling the legal requirement to depict the national bird. The reverse is completed with the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the HALF DOLLAR denomination.
