In 1955, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof coinage, including a run of 378,200 half dollars. This particular silver piece represents a highly preserved survivor from that mid-century era, achieving a certified grade of Proof 68 with a coveted Cameo designation. The designation highlights a stark, beautiful contrast between the frosted central design elements and the highly reflective, mirror-like fields. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces, the coin carries the traditional half dollar face value of 50 cents.
