In 1955, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of proof coins, including a half dollar featuring the portrait of Benjamin Franklin. This particular specimen is struck in 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. It has achieved an exceptional proof grade of 67, highlighting the crispness of the strike and the preservation of its surfaces over the decades. The obverse of the coin displays the profile of Benjamin Franklin with the inscriptions of trust and liberty, alongside the 1955 date. The reverse showcases the iconic Liberty Bell, complete with the famous crack and the inscription from the bell itself, alongside the traditional national mottoes and the half dollar denomination. Because it was struck at the Philadelphia facility, the coin carries no mint mark, which was standard practice for the location during this era.
