1956 Franklin Half Dollar Gem Proof (Type-II) 3 Feathers

0.3575 troy oz .900 1956 Gem Proof

Struck at the Philadelphia Mint during the mid-century era, the 1956 Franklin half dollar is a beautiful representation of American coinage. This particular specimen is a Gem Proof, highlighting the sharp contrast and meticulous craftsmanship of the era. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and does not display a mint mark, which is characteristic of Philadelphia issues from this period. The obverse of the coin presents a clean, right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin. Surrounding his portrait are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1956 date of manufacture. The design is credited to John R. Sinnock, who captured the statesman's likeness with elegant simplicity. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with outstretched wings is visible, a design element required by law. The reverse also features the country of origin, the denomination of HALF DOLLAR, and the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, completing a classic piece of United States numismatic history.
