In 1956, the Philadelphia Mint produced a total of 669,384 proof half dollars, a run that included two distinct design variations. This particular coin is a Type II variety, which is distinguished by the specific rendering of the eagle on the reverse. Collectors can identify this version by looking closely at the eagle's wings, which display three clearly defined feathers, as well as significantly sharper details across the neck feathers. Struck in 90 percent silver, this proof specimen has been certified in Proof 66 condition. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, it does not bear a mint mark. The obverse features the portrait of Benjamin Franklin alongside the inscriptions of liberty and trust, while the reverse showcases the Liberty Bell and the small eagle, carrying the traditional national mottos and the half dollar denomination.
