In 1957, the Denver Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that stands as a classic example of mid-century American coinage. This fifty-cent piece is struck in 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. Preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, the coin showcases the original luster and crisp details of its mid-century design. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, designed by John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the founding father's likeness are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1957 issue date. Franklin's bust offers a clean, dignified profile that departs from the traditional allegorical figures of liberty seen on earlier American coinage. On the reverse, the central focus is the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is depicted, satisfying the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse legends include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination HALF DOLLAR, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The Denver Mint's presence is marked by the small D mint mark located above the bell.
