1957 Franklin Half Dollar MS-65 PCGS (FBL)
In 1957, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that captures the spirit of mid-century America. This particular coin, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of silver, has been graded in Mint State 65 (MS-65) with the highly sought-after Full Bell Lines designation. This designation indicates that the delicate horizontal lines on the lower portion of the reverse design are exceptionally well-defined and fully struck. The obverse of the coin displays a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his portrait are the classic inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1957 year of issue. Designed by John R. Sinnock, this clean and dignified portrait is a hallmark of the series. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element included to fulfill legal requirements for the denomination. The reverse also bears the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination HALF DOLLAR. Struck without a mint mark, this coin stands as a beautifully preserved example of Philadelphia's mid-century coinage.
