In 1958, the United States Mint in Denver produced a silver half dollar that departed from the traditional depictions of Liberty, opting instead to honor one of the nation's most famous founding figures. This mid-century coin, struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces, is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, showcasing the original artistry of John R. Sinnock. The obverse presents a clean, right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin. Surrounding this historic portrait are the classic inscriptions of "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1958 date. The design offers a dignified tribute to Franklin's legacy, rendered with a simplicity that defines the era's coinage. On the reverse, the central focus is the Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings stands out, fulfilling the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse is framed by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and "HALF DOLLAR". Just above the bell's yoke, the "D" mint mark indicates this particular piece was struck at the Denver Mint.
