In 1958, the Denver Mint produced a classic silver half dollar that honors one of America's most famous founding figures. This coin, composed of 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces, is a beautiful representative of mid-century American coinage. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 64 condition, preserving its original luster and detail. The obverse of the coin features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, designed by artist John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the portrait are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1958 date. This design marked a departure from the traditional allegorical figures of Liberty, opting instead to honor a real historical citizen. On the reverse, the central focus is the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle is depicted, satisfying the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse also bears the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination HALF DOLLAR. The Denver origin of this piece is marked by the small letter D located above the bell.
