In 1958, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking proof edition of the Franklin half dollar, showcasing the mid-century aesthetic of United States coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this half dollar contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin does not bear a mint mark, keeping the focus entirely on its balanced and classic design elements. The obverse presents a clean, right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his portrait are the fundamental inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1958 date. The design was originally conceived by sculptor John R. Sinnock, who brought a sense of dignified simplicity to the coin's front. On the reverse, the historic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its characteristic crack.
