This mid-century silver coin from 1960 represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, this half dollar is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.3617 ounces of pure precious metal. It has been certified in Mint State 64 condition, preserving the crisp details of its mid-twentieth-century design. The obverse of the coin features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of the nation's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his portrait are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1960 date. This design was created by sculptor John R. Sinnock, offering a distinct departure from the traditional allegorical figures of liberty that dominated earlier American coinage. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a detail added to satisfy legal requirements for the denomination. The reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, HALF DOLLAR, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The small 'D' mint mark above the bell indicates its origin at the Denver facility.
