Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not display a mint mark, which is characteristic of the facility's output during this period. As a proof coin, it was manufactured using a specialized process that highlights the sharp details of the engraving, resulting in a highly reflective finish. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, one of the nation's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his likeness are the traditional inscriptions of freedom and faith, with the word LIBERTY positioned above and the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST, placed below. The year 1960 is clearly visible to the right of his shoulder. This side of the coin was designed by John R. Sinnock, who captured a dignified and realistic representation of Franklin. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack and wooden yoke. To the left of the bell, the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM is inscribed, while a small eagle with outstretched wings stands to the right.
