Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1960, this proof half dollar showcases the mid-twentieth-century artistry of the United States. Crafted from 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.3575 troy ounces, this coin represents a time when silver was the standard for American circulating currency, though this particular piece was struck with the polished brilliance reserved for proof issues. Graded Proof 66, it exhibits a high level of preservation, capturing the crisp details of the original dies. The obverse features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of the nation's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his likeness are the traditional inscriptions of "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," alongside the 1960 date. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin does not carry a mint mark, leaving the fields around the portrait clean and uncluttered. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element included to fulfill legal requirements for half dollar coinage.
