The obverse of the coin features a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his likeness are the inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the 1961 date of issue. On the reverse, the design showcases the iconic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element required by law.
