In 1961, the Philadelphia Mint produced a striking silver half dollar that honors one of America's most famous founding figures. This mid-century coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of silver, with a purity of 90 percent. Preserved in an exceptional state of preservation, this specimen has been certified as Mint State 65, showcasing the original details of its mid-century design just as it appeared when it left the minting press. The front of the coin presents a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin. Surrounding this historic profile are the classic inscriptions of freedom and faith, including the word LIBERTY, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, and the year 1961. The design offers a dignified tribute to Franklin's legacy, rendered with clean lines characteristic of the era's coinage. Turning the coin over reveals a detailed depiction of the Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, fulfilling the traditional requirement for the denomination. The reverse also features the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM alongside the issuing country, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the face value, HALF DOLLAR. Because this piece was struck in Philadelphia, it does not carry a mint mark, leaving the space around the bell clean and uninterrupted.
