The 1961 Franklin half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage, struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces. This particular specimen is certified in Proof 67 condition, highlighting the exceptional quality of its manufacture at the Philadelphia Mint. Because it was produced in Philadelphia, the coin does not carry a mint mark, a traditional practice for the facility during this period. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the obverse of the coin features a clean, right facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Accompanying his portrait are the fundamental inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1961 date. On the reverse, the central motif is the historic Liberty Bell, rendered in impressive detail. Next to the bell, a small eagle is visible, fulfilling the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse design is framed by the country of origin, the face value of HALF DOLLAR, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM.
