In 1962, the Philadelphia Mint produced a half dollar that stands as a classic piece of mid-century American coinage. Struck in 0.900 fine silver, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin does not display a mint mark, keeping the focus entirely on its clean, historic design elements. The obverse of the coin presents a right-facing profile of Benjamin Franklin, one of the nation's most celebrated founding figures. Surrounding this portrait are the traditional inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1962 issue date. This design was originally created by John R. Sinnock. Turning the coin over reveals a detailed reverse centered on the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, satisfying the legal requirement to depict the national bird. The reverse is completed with the inscriptions E Pluribus Unum and the denomination, HALF DOLLAR, framing a design that captures a pivotal era in United States coinage.
