The 1962 Franklin Half Dollar stands as a remarkable example of mid-twentieth-century American coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this particular piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. It has been graded as a Proof-68 Cameo, a high-tier designation indicating incredibly sharp detail and a beautiful visual contrast between the frosted design elements and the mirror-like background fields. Designed by John R. Sinnock, the obverse of the coin features a right-facing profile portrait of Benjamin Franklin. This side is inscribed with the word LIBERTY, the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST, and the 1962 production date. Because this issue was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, it does not bear a mint mark. The reverse displays the iconic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, fulfilling the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and HALF DOLLAR, framing the central design elements in a balanced and elegant composition.
