Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1962, this mid-century silver half dollar represents a classic era of United States coinage. The piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. Preserved in an exceptional proof state, it has been certified by independent grading experts at the high grade of Proof 68, highlighting the crispness of its details and the quality of its manufacture. Designed by artist John R. Sinnock, the obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The legendary statesman and inventor is surrounded by the inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1962 date of issue. Because this proof coin was minted in Philadelphia, it carries no mint mark, leaving the fields around the portrait remarkably clean. The reverse of the coin displays a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element added to fulfill legal requirements for the denomination. The reverse also bears the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and states the face value of the coin as a half dollar.
