The 1962 Franklin half dollar stands as a remarkable example of mid twentieth century American coinage. Struck in Philadelphia, this particular specimen is certified in Proof 65 condition, showcasing the sharp details and mirrored surfaces characteristic of the proof minting process. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. On the obverse, a right facing profile of Benjamin Franklin dominates the design. This portrait, created by John R. Sinnock, is accompanied by the inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1962 date. Because it was minted at the Philadelphia facility, the coin bears no mint mark. The reverse features a highly detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, fulfilling the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse also displays the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM alongside the issuing nation and the half dollar face value.
