The 1963 Franklin half dollar stands as a remarkable example of mid twentieth century American coinage. Struck in 0.900 fine silver, this piece contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal. As a Philadelphia mint issue, the coin features no mint mark, leaving its clean surfaces to showcase the artistry of the design without interruption. On the obverse, a right facing profile of Benjamin Franklin takes center stage. This portrait is accompanied by the classic inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1963 date. The design was originally created by John R. Sinnock, who captured the famous statesman with elegant simplicity. The reverse of the coin presents a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, fulfilling the legal requirement for the denomination.
