In 1963, the Philadelphia Mint struck a remarkable proof edition of the United States half dollar, capturing the fine details of a design that honors one of America's most famous founding figures. This particular coin has been certified in an outstanding Proof 67 condition, highlighting the mirror-like surfaces and sharp details characteristic of the era's finest proof strikes. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse side of the coin features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, rendered by designer John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the profile of the famous statesman and inventor are the classic inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, alongside the 1963 date. Because this proof coin was struck at the Philadelphia facility, it bears no mint mark. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a detail added to fulfill legal coinage requirements. The reverse is completed with the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the face value, HALF DOLLAR, reminding us of a classic mid-century era in American coinage.
