1963 Roosevelt Dime BU
Semi-Numismatic
1963 Roosevelt Dime BU
The 1963 Roosevelt dime stands as a striking example of mid-century American coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver, this ten-cent piece contains approximately 0.0715 to 0.0723 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, the coin retains its original luster and crisp details just as it looked when leaving the Philadelphia Mint over six decades ago. On the obverse, the coin displays the left-facing profile of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Surrounding his portrait are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1963 date and the designer's initials, JS. This simple yet powerful portrait honored the late president's legacy and became a staple of daily commerce. The reverse side presents a rich trio of symbolic elements. At the center stands a lit torch, flanked on the left by a peaceful olive branch and on the right by a strong oak branch. Woven through and around these symbols is the traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, while the outer edge bears the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME. Together, these designs create a beautifully balanced piece of numismatic history.
