1964 Kennedy Half Dollar PF-67 NGC
In 1964, the United States introduced a poignant new coin design to honor a fallen president. This inaugural year of the Kennedy half dollar series is represented here by a highly preserved specimen, certified by professional graders at Proof 67. Struck in 90 percent silver, this coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and showcases the sharp details and mirrored fields characteristic of the proof minting process. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of John F. Kennedy, created by sculptor Gilroy Roberts. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is positioned below the bust, while the year 1964 is anchored at the bottom rim. This design captured the nation's memory of the president in the immediate aftermath of his passing. On the reverse, Frank Gasparro's design presents a powerful heraldic eagle. The eagle holds an olive branch of peace in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other, symbolizing both defense and diplomacy. Surrounded by the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR", this side also includes the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on a banner above the eagle. Out of a total mintage of 3,950,762 proof pieces struck that year, this coin remains an exceptional survivor of mid-century American numismatic history.
