In 1964, the United States Mint introduced a new half dollar design to honor President John F. Kennedy. This inaugural year of the series holds a special place in American numismatic history, representing the only year the Kennedy half dollar was struck for circulation in a 90 percent silver alloy. These coins contain 0.3575 troy ounces of precious silver, combining historical significance with precious metal content. This particular specimen is a proof coin produced at the Philadelphia Mint, which did not use a mint mark at the time. Out of a mintage of 3,950,762 proof pieces struck that year, this coin has been certified in an exceptional Proof 69 condition. This high grade indicates a coin that is nearly perfect, showcasing the sharp details and mirror-like finishes characteristic of the finest proof minting techniques. The design features striking inscriptions that are clearly visible on the surfaces. The obverse bears the solemn phrase IN GOD WE TRUST, while the reverse displays the proud declaration of the issuing nation, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, alongside the denomination, HALF DOLLAR.
