This 10 cent piece from 1964 represents a significant moment in American numismatic history, marking the final year that circulating dimes were struck in 90 percent silver. With a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, these silver coins were eventually withdrawn from public circulation as the rising price of silver coincided with the introduction of copper and nickel clad compositions. The obverse of the coin features a detailed profile of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. On the reverse, three symbolic elements stand side by side: an olive branch on the left, a central lit torch, and an oak branch on the right. Because this specimen was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, it does not bear a mint mark. Preserved in an exceptional Proof 69 state, this coin showcases the sharp details and mirrored fields characteristic of the proof minting process. The legible reverse inscriptions include the national motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM, alongside the country name, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the denomination, ONE DIME.
