The 1966 Kennedy half dollar stands as a notable mid-1960s issue, struck in a composition containing forty percent silver, which yields 0.1479 troy ounces of the precious metal per coin. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 65 (MS-65) condition, preserving the crisp details of its mid-century craftsmanship. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy, designed by Gilroy Roberts. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is split across the lower field, just above the date of manufacture. On the reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, a detailed heraldic eagle clutches an olive branch and a bundle of arrows, symbolizing peace and preparedness. The reverse design also features the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" alongside the denomination "HALF DOLLAR" and the country name "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
