1966 Kennedy Half Dollar SMS MS-67 NGC

0.1479 troy oz .400 1966 MS-67 (NGC)

In 1966, the United States produced a distinctive version of its fifty cent piece for Special Mint Sets. This particular coin has been graded in exceptional Mint State 67 condition, highlighting the preservation of its mid-century design. Struck in a composition containing 0.1479 troy ounces of silver, this coin represents a transitional era for American circulating silver coinage. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of President John F. Kennedy, accompanied by the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" split across the lower field, with the date 1966 positioned at the bottom. This side of the coin was designed by Gilroy Roberts. On the reverse, designed by Frank Gasparro, a detailed heraldic eagle is depicted holding a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other. The inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the top, while the denomination "HALF DOLLAR" is displayed below, with the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" placed above the eagle.
